A Purple Patch!

It’s been a terrific spell for the Dean Kannemeyer Racing team. Five winners in four racing days in two provinces tells the story of a yard in hot form – and looking forward to the Cape Summer Season!

When the Pomodoro gelding Love On Time charged home at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday 17 November to cap a terrific birthday gift for Mauritius-based owner Dr Jamie Sim it marked a deserved maiden victory and maintained the yard’s momentum.

“I am particularly thrilled for Dr Sim. He is a partner with Cheryl & Rynier Gabler, and David Abery in Let It Burn who won so impressively at his second outing at Kenilworth just 24 hours earlier. I suggested then it was an early birthday gift – and I am so happy for him that he enjoyed the double,” said Dean.

Bred by Team Valor International, the lightly tried Let It Burn looks very exciting. A son of Gimmethegreenlight, he is out of the Gr2 winning Jet Master mare, She’s On Fire.

“I think he will be even better around the turn and won’t be surprised to see him go 2000m,” said Dean of the handsome galloper.

The DKR purple patch commenced with the Drakenstein owned and bred Futura filly Dawnofanewday winning her maiden at the fourth time of asking at Kenilworth on Saturday 13 November.

Lady Yusra grabbed the first leg of a DKR double at Hollywoodbets Greyville just 24 hours later when the daughter of Silvano won for the partnership of George Ragunan, Wayne Thompson and Howard Schwegmann.

The Ridgemont Highlands-bred Boldly Go was not to be outdone and registered her second career victory when finishing powerfully for the staunch Fullard and Drew combination to cap the Sunday double!

Dean, who arrived at the TBA Sales Complex in Johannesburg for the BSA November 2yo Sale on Thursday afternoon, said that he was very pleased with the form of the yards in both provinces.

“We have a wonderful base of loyal owners and my staff also play a key role in our success. The diverse options of having a permanent satellite base at Summerveld with access to both all-weather and turf racing has once again underscored our decision to broaden our horizons in that regard.”

He added that the Cape Summer Season hosts some of the toughest and most competitive racing of the year and that he has some very smart and exciting contenders going into the next three months in the fairest Cape.

Cosmic Highway runs in the Gr2 Concorde Cup at Kenilworth on Saturday. It is a race that Dean has won a few times.

“Khaya Stables’ Cosmic Highway is a class act and he showed that with his Cape Nursery victory and Gr2 Golden Horseshoe wins. We gave him some time off and he acquitted himself admirably on his return in the Gr3 Matchem Stakes at his first run as a 3yo. I gave him a nice gallop over 1400m recently and will know where I stand after Saturday’s race. I have always regarded him as a Guineas horse and he will come on with the benefit of Saturday’s run.”

The BSA November 2yo Sale starts at 12h00 on Saturday 20 November.
