Hollywoodbets and Gold Circle recently announced an incredible R16m boost to the KZN stakes pot for the period 1 March to 31 August.

The distribution of these funds has raised the minimum stakes for any races in the province during this period to R100 000. Grade 1 races such as the Daily News 2000, Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes, Mercury Sprint and the Champions Cup will each now carry a stake of R1 million and the Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge will be run for R1,25m.

Dean congratulated Hollywoodbets for their sponsorship of the R5 million Gr1 Hollywoodbets Durban July.

“It’s the race we all want to win. I have saddled three July winners – Dynasty (2003), Eyeofthetiger (2006) and Power King (2015) – since taking the reins from my late Dad almost 22 years ago. It’s going to be the climax of the season here on 2 July, and there is so much prestige riding on the outcome!”

Dean added that horseracing, like many industries, has been through some testing times as a result of covid.

“We are thus all looking forward to racing for vastly improved stakes in an arena where the best horses from all provinces congregate to compete. Kannemeyer Racing has been competing on the East Coast for over 40 years and we have a very nice balanced string this year,” said Dean.

Dean was full of praise for the facilities at his Summerveld satellite yard.
